Staying in a trulli is an experience you can’t miss when visiting Puglia. These unique stone buildings with their signature cone-shaped roofs have a history stretching back to the 14th century and are exclusive to this enchanting part of Italy. Recently, many have been renovated into charming accommodations for those seeking a taste of local culture.
However, we discovered that traditional trulli tend to be quite small. Instead, we opted for a spacious, stylish property designed to resemble a trullo. It perfectly catered to our family’s needs, blending the charm of the traditional design with modern amenities.

Trullo Roverella Review
Trullo Roverella stands out as one of the most unforgettable places we’ve stayed.
With only two properties sharing this serene olive tree-filled expanse near Castellano Grotte, each boasts its own private pool.
The beautifully designed trullo villa features a fully equipped kitchen, a cozy living room with a sofa bed and smart TV, and a master bedroom situated on a charming mezzanine.
In a separate annex adjacent to the cone-shaped dwelling, there’s a bathroom complete with a generous freestanding tub that offers stunning views of the pool through floor-to-ceiling windows.
Every detail reflects the local character, from vintage olive jars to delicate embroidered curtains. It’s both aesthetically pleasing and functional, equipped with ample crockery, an oven, a microwave, a dishwasher, and facilities for brewing tea and coffee.
The outdoor space is a highlight. The pool feels expansive for our family of three. Different areas provide the perfect spots for relaxation throughout the day—think bistro tables for sunlit breakfasts, comfortable lounge chairs for leisurely lunches, and an outdoor dining area complete with a BBQ and sink for delightful evening meals under the pink sky.
The garden, beyond the pool, hides bean bags in the shade of ancient olive trees. An outdoor bathroom saves small feet from trekking through the main dwelling.
A laundry room next to the outdoor bathroom is a practical addition for longer stays.
Initially unsure of sleeping arrangements, we brought an inflatable toddler bed, but the sofa bed exceeded our expectations. Our 3-year-old slept soundly, allowing us to enjoy Netflix together in the evenings without disturbing him.
If you’re traveling with younger children, you can request a cot and high chair, although we didn’t need them. I believe there is enough space for a travel cot on the mezzanine, ensuring little ones don’t need to navigate steep stairs at night if they wake.
One aspect we truly appreciated was the EV charging station. We rented an electric car through Discover Cars, which allowed us to explore without worrying about fuel costs.
The location is ideal for visiting notable sights in Puglia. It takes just 13 minutes to reach Alberobello, approximately 20 minutes to Monopoli, and around 30 minutes to the iconic Lama Monachile in Polignano A Mare.
Nearby Castellana Grotte (just a 6-minute drive) offers fantastic dining options. Don’t miss the delightful family-run La Fontanina Restaurant—so tasty and reasonably priced that we returned twice. Be sure to stop by Sugar Gelateria for dessert afterward.
For anyone planning a trip to Puglia, I wholeheartedly recommend staying at Trullo Roverella.
