Discover Your Ultimate Getaway At Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes

At the edge of the Baja Peninsula, just a quick 15-minute drive north of Cabo San Lucas, lies Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes. This isn’t the Cabo the world often pictures—with towering hotels, bustling nightlife, and throngs of tourists. Instead, here you’ll find an oasis of quiet luxury, where the lush green fairways embrace the sparkling blue of the Pacific Ocean and the vast desert light transforms the golden sand dunes into a painter’s palette of colors.

At the heart of this tranquil setting is Solmar Golf Links, a stunning course designed by the legendary Greg Norman. This isn’t just any course; it’s been lauded as one of Mexico’s finest, proudly securing a spot on Golf Digest’s Editors’ Choice list and earning the title of the 12th best course in the Mexico/Caribbean/Atlantic region by Golf Week. Opened in 2020, the course stretches an impressive 7,240 yards and seamlessly weaves itself through rolling dunes and a vibrant cactus forest. Five of its holes sit right by the sea, where you can even spot whales breaching in the distance—a touching inspiration for the course’s logo. With every swing, the gentle breeze reminds you of the wild, natural beauty surrounding you.

Norman’s design philosophy shines through clearly from the very first tee. Rather than impose on the land, he has embraced it. The course elegantly flows through three distinct ecosystems—desert, dune, and coast—without disturbing their delicate balance. Native flora embraces the fairways, and the resilient SeaDwarf Paspalum grass keeps the greens lush and vibrant, even under the relentless sun and salty sea breeze. Plus, it’s not just beautiful; it’s eco-friendly too, boasting Audubon International certification, making it a leader in sustainable golfing.

Yet, the magic of this destination doesn’t end at the final hole.

After a short golf cart ride, you’ll find Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes, a luxury resort that impressively caters to everyone from serious golfers to couples looking for a romantic escape, and families seeking quality time together. Though it opened in 2017, the resort has a fresh vibe, characterized by clean lines, coastal textures, and a design inspired by the Baja region that creates an instant sense of calm. The suites are spacious, ranging from 743 to over 2,500 square feet, each complete with kitchens or kitchenettes, private terraces, and breathtaking ocean views.

From my large studio suite, I was captivated by the unfolding drama of the sun as it rose and set over the Pacific. Mornings melted into leisurely breakfasts, followed by gentle walks along miles of pristine beach. One morning, I indulged in a rejuvenating massage in a palapa nestled by the dunes at Spa by the Ocean, where the sound of waves gently lapping soothed me into relaxation. The spa’s central hot tub was just the cherry on top of a blissful experience.

The Lagoon Pool, however, might just be the true star of the resort.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of sand dunes and majestic desert mountains, the saltwater Lagoon Pool is vast enough that you can actually kayak across it. One end features a beach-style entry with soft sand, perfect for little ones to play in. The other end is home to twin waterslides and a fun rope swing. Shaded cabanas invite you to kick back, while paddleboards glide past swim-up bars. It’s active, but never feels chaotic; families can find the perfect spot to play, while couples can seek their own serene corners for a little escape.

It’s rather uncommon for a resort pool to feel like a destination all on its own, but here, it really does.

Dining at the resort is equally impressive. Anica, the signature restaurant, offers refined Baja cuisine in a charming setting that manages to feel both elevated and relaxed. Seafood is the standout choice, but there are also more laid-back dining options available poolside or via in-room service. Guests can choose from various Meal Plan options, allowing for a customizable dining experience that suits their day-to-day plans.

Families will delight in the variety of on-site activities. Beyond the Lagoon, there’s a dedicated kids’ club, a well-equipped fitness studio, and a lively sports bar featuring multiple screens showcasing the day’s sporting events. This expansive space also includes games like pop-a-shot and air hockey, ensuring there’s always something to do. Plus, the concierge is on hand to arrange excursions to nearby adventure parks, like Cactus Tours, where I found myself on a camel ride along the dunes at sunset—an unexpectedly peaceful experience. Horseback riding, ATVs, and the world’s longest Skybike course are just a few more thrilling options.

Service throughout the resort radiates warmth and genuine hospitality. The Solmar Hotels & Resorts group has been building its reputation for decades, ensuring that every interaction feels personal and welcoming. Many staff members have been with the brand for years, and that continuity enriches the guest experience in meaningful yet understated ways.

Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes is part of the larger Rancho San Lucas development, which includes residential areas, a village center, and more properties under construction. However, the resort itself never feels overcrowded. With an emphasis on space and privacy, even at full capacity, you’ll experience a laid-back ambiance.

If you and your partner are seeking a romantic escape, the Grand Studio and Grand Master Suite offer sleek, ocean-view accommodations. Families or small groups can settle into the Two-Bedroom Presidential or Penthouse Suites, where there’s ample space to relax. Every suite is tastefully decorated with rich textiles, plush bedding, original artwork, and intricate tilework. All come equipped with complimentary Wi-Fi, satellite TV, and free parking, with kitchens fully stocked for your convenience and balconies or terraces offering stunning views.

The brand’s rich history dates back to the 1970s when Don Luis Bulnes, a Spanish immigrant and avid sportfisher, founded a quaint inn. His vision played a significant role in Cabo San Lucas transitioning from a sleepy fishing village to a sought-after destination. Even as Solmar expanded to six properties, it retained a personal touch—each resort is unique and reflects its surroundings.

Though it’s incredibly easy to lose track of time once you arrive and just stay put, venturing out is a breeze. With Cabo San Lucas just a quick drive away, the concierge will happily arrange private drivers or excursions for day trips. But many guests find the tranquility, exquisite service, and the sea too enticing to leave.

For avid golfers, your ideal day can begin with a sunrise, followed by 18 holes in the cool morning light, then returning poolside by noon. For everyone else, the days can unfold however you choose—whether that means swimming, indulging in spa treatments, hiking the stunning coastline, or simply sipping a glass of local wine on your terrace, soaking in a spectacular sunset.

While many options exist for accommodations in Cabo San Lucas, few harmonize nature, design, and hospitality as seamlessly as Grand Solmar Pacific Dunes. Here, there’s space for both relaxation and energy. This resort pays homage to its surroundings while warmly welcoming all kinds of travelers—from couples seeking a city escape to families reuniting under the sun.

In this haven, golf isn’t just the highlight, but it may be one of the most scenic games you’ll ever play. Come for the golf; stay for everything else.
