Day 1: Arrival in Algiers, the Capital

Your journey likely begins with your arrival in the bustling capital, Algiers. Be prepared for potential delays at immigration, especially given the thoroughness of passport control.

After checking into your hotel, take some time to explore the charming French Quarter, admiring the colonial architecture and perhaps changing currency at Port Saïd Square, which is located conveniently near Tantonville’s Café. In the evening, unwind by the seaside at Restaurant Le Dauphin, famous for its outdoor terrace and local brews.

    Where to Stay in Algiers

Budget Hotel – Consider the Afric Hotel, centrally located in the heart of the Qasbah.

Mid-Range Hotel – The City Hotel offers standard amenities in a newer part of town.

High-End Option – For a luxury experience, try the Sofitel, one of Algiers’ finest hotels.

Day 2: Discovering Algiers and the Qasbah

Your second day in Algiers will be dedicated to exploring the historic Qasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site. While parts of the Qasbah have fallen into disrepair, its narrow streets and stunning viewpoints entice visitors to stroll and experience its old-world charm.

Try local seafood at eateries in the upper Qasbah, like Le Petit Pêcheur, known for its authentic dishes at reasonable prices.

    Other Attractions in Algiers

    • The Admiralty Lighthouse, popular among locals for its sunset views.
    • The Church of Notre Dame d’Afrique, known for spectacular city vistas.
    • Hotel El Djazair, a vintage establishment with a rich history.

    Day 3: Journey to Ghardaïa

Your adventure continues with a trip to Ghardaïa, located approximately 600 km from Algiers. Most travelers opt for Air Algérie flights, though for a more scenic experience, road trips are available, often stopping at historical sites along the way.

    Where to Stay in Ghardaïa

Maison Akham offers traditional accommodations, while Belvedere provides a comfortable hotel experience.

    Day 4: Explore Ghardaïa

Ghardaïa is a UNESCO-listed site that showcases unique architecture and the vibrant culture of the Mozabite community. Visitors can marvel at the traditional dress of Mozabite women and explore the area’s distinctive towns, each with its own identity.

    • The bustling Ghardaïa Market for an authentic local experience.
    • El Atteuf, a notable Qasbah.
    • Beni Isguen, known for its conservative values.

    Day 5: Flight to Constantine

After a short flight, you will arrive in Constantine, a city known for its dramatic cliffs and striking suspension bridges. The urban landscape promises to dazzle visitors with its photogenic views and warm hospitality.

    Day 7: Tamanrasset & Assekrem

Arrival in Tamanrasset, though sensitive in nature, offers travelers a unique glimpse into the life of the Tuareg people. Discover Assekrem, a breathtaking plateau ideal for witnessing stunning desert sunrises and sunsets.

    Activities in Tamanrasset

Immerse yourself in the Tuareg culture and engage in activities like camping at higher altitudes, providing an unforgettable experience under the vast starry night sky.

    Day 8: Assekrem and Beyond

Take a leisurely drive through the region, with stops at authentic Tuareg camps that showcase the local way of life before returning to Tamanrasset.

Day 9 to 12: Djanet and Tassili N’Ajjer National Park

Upon arrival in Djanet, embark on a multi-day expedition into the stunning Tassili N’Ajjer National Park. Witness surreal landscapes and ancient rock art that reflect Algeria’s rich cultural heritage.
