Barefoot Luxury and Turkish Bliss: Why Families Keep Returning to Hillside Beach Club

    Hillside Beach Club, Fethiye

During the May school holidays, we traveled to a highly-rated 5-star resort in Fethiye that has occupied a spot on my travel wish list for quite some time. Hillside Beach Club is often described as a Mediterranean paradise and is famous for a guest return rate so significant—72%—that it was featured in a Harvard case study.

We arrived with substantial expectations and a curiosity to understand what keeps so many families coming back year after year. It didn’t take long to realize why. Located in a secluded, private bay just 10 minutes from Fethiye town, the resort is a stunning intersection of crystal-clear turquoise waters and dense pine forests.

The combination of a breathtaking natural landscape and genuine Turkish hospitality made for a trip that balanced high-energy fun with deep relaxation. While our active seven-year-old explored the various activities, I found peace at the adults-only beaches, indulged in the Balinese-style spa, and enjoyed the seamless service at the sun loungers.

What sets Hillside apart is its ability to be welcoming to children without being overwhelmed by them. It is family-friendly but retains an upscale, sophisticated feel. Two of the three private beaches are strictly for adults, providing a necessary escape for those seeking quiet. Simultaneously, children are exceptionally well-catered for at “Kidside,” a dedicated area featuring pools, water slides, and creative spaces managed by a professional childcare and entertainment team.

This resort prioritizes quality and consistency over the sheer volume of amenities found at larger all-inclusive chains. The atmosphere is authentic, and the service feels personal. The main buffet restaurant is remarkably high-quality, and the nightly entertainment is produced at a professional theater level. A practical benefit for those visiting in the shoulder seasons is the heated pools, which made swimming comfortable during our May visit.

Despite its size, the resort maintains an intimate, boutique-like feel. Our recently renovated room was stylish and private, featuring a pleasant scent that added to the luxury experience. We noticed that many staff members recognized returning guests by name, highlighting the community atmosphere that defines the Hillside experience.

It is easy to see why families return for decades. By the end of our stay, we were already planning our next visit. If you are considering Hillside Beach Club for your next family holiday, here is a comprehensive look at what the resort offers.

Comprehensive Review of the Hillside Beach Club Experience

    Accommodation and Room Layout

The guest rooms at Hillside are arranged in blocks that tier up the hillside, flanking the central pool and dining areas. This layout requires navigating some steep steps, which provides a unique architectural feel. The primary entrance to the rooms often opens directly onto a private terrace.

The staggered design ensures that most rooms enjoy unobstructed vistas of the bay. Our Superior Double with Private Terrace offered a high level of privacy; the terrace was not overlooked, and we felt completely secluded.

We stayed in room 572, which felt modern and fresh thanks to its neutral, updated décor. While the bedroom space was occupied mostly by the large double bed and an extra bed for our son, the walk-in wardrobe provided ample storage. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and though a pillow menu was available, the standard bedding was excellent.

In-room amenities include complimentary water, tea, and coffee, including fresh milk in the fridge. The bathroom is located off the terrace, which creates an indoor-outdoor atmosphere reminiscent of tropical resorts in Southeast Asia. For larger groups, family suites are available with a separate second bedroom accessible via the terrace.

Accessibility is managed via two funiculars that transport guests from the beach level to higher room tiers. While they don’t stop at every single floor, they significantly reduce the amount of climbing. When moving luggage, the resort provides porter services and golf buggies to assist with the transition.

    Dining Venues and Meal Quality

Hillside features three distinct dining locations. The Main Restaurant offers an expansive buffet three times daily. The Italian Beach Restaurant provides an à la carte experience for families, while Pasha on the Bay is an adults-only venue for quiet dinners. Both the Italian and Pasha restaurants require advanced reservations.

The “Full Board Plus” plan includes drinks like water, soft drinks, beer, and wine during meals at the Main Restaurant. However, drinks ordered at the bars, on the beach, or during dinner at the specialty restaurants incur an additional charge. Return guests often receive a loyalty discount on these extra beverages, and the Hillside App allows you to track your spending easily.

The buffet is exceptional, focusing on freshness and variety. Numerous live cooking stations feature Turkish specialties, including traditional doner kebabs and fresh mezes. We found the local flavors to be a highlight, though a dedicated children’s section is available for simpler tastes. The dessert selection was equally impressive, featuring a handmade truffle station and beautifully presented cakes.

The Italian Restaurant offers a shared set-menu experience by the water. Because it opens at 20:30 for dinner, it is better suited for families who don’t mind late dining. During the day, this same location serves as the Beach Restaurant, where guests can order burgers, pasta, or grilled fish alongside a smaller salad buffet—no reservations required.

    Resort Activities and Wellness

    Activity Options

The resort maintains a philosophy of “feeling good,” offering a wide range of activities without the high-pressure environment often found at large resorts. Using the Hillside App, guests can track daily schedules for yoga, volleyball, kayaking, and even astronomy talks.

    The Adults-Only Beaches

Serenity Beach is accessible via a scenic 10-minute walk or a 30-minute shuttle boat. It features its own bar, barbecue lunch, and luxury loungers. Silent Beach, located near the spa, is a “no-phone” zone accessed via a wooden forest path. It is perfectly quiet and hosts morning yoga sessions.

    Spa and Fitness

There are two spa locations: the Sanda Day Spa in the main building and the Sanda Nature Spa near Silent Beach. The Nature Spa has a Balinese jungle aesthetic, with therapy rooms nestled among the trees. For fitness enthusiasts, the indoor-outdoor gym is well-equipped for various training styles, including HYROX.

    Dedicated Spaces for Younger Guests

    The Kidside Club

Designed for children aged 4 to 10, Kidside features heated pools, water slides, and designated areas for Lego and crafts. Parents are welcome to stay and play, or children can be left under professional supervision while adults visit the quiet zones of the resort.

    Teen and Baby Facilities

The Activity Centre serves older children (ages 8 to 15) with table tennis, basketball, and gaming consoles. For the youngest travelers, the Baby Park offers a shaded, soft-play environment with shallow pools. Additionally, “Artside” provides a creative space for all ages to paint ceramics or t-shirts for a small fee.

    Evening Entertainment

Hillside is famous for its large-scale theater productions in an outdoor amphitheater. Shows change nightly and are professional in quality, often featuring high-end costumes and choreography. The resort also hosts unique events like movies on the water and live beach music, creating a sophisticated nighttime atmosphere.

    Exploring Beyond the Resort

While the resort is comprehensive, the old town of Fethiye is just a short drive away. The hotel provides shuttles for those looking to explore the local marina and markets. For a special experience, we recommend the sunset cruise on a traditional wooden gulet, which offers a beautiful perspective of the coastline.

    Tips for Booking Your Visit

Hillside Beach Club can be booked through major operators like British Airways Holidays and TUI, or directly through the resort. Because it is highly sought after, early booking is recommended, especially for peak periods like the May or October school breaks. The resort typically offers early bird discounts in phases starting late in the previous year.

Final Takeaway: Hillside Beach Club earns its reputation by offering a rare blend of high-quality service, exceptional food, and a layout that respects the needs of both families and those seeking adult-only tranquility. Its high return rate is a testament to its consistent quality and unique, secluded setting in Fethiye.
